Since the the third trimester, Mommy's gynae has been going on and on about how short Reyes would be and that he is very small and underweight against the gestational weeks/weight graph. Mommy even teared after one gynae visit as she felt that she has compromised baby Reyes's well being because she gave in to carrying me, the 11kg baby all around and being "overworked" when she was advised to do more bed rest.
Reyes was putting on weight surely but slowly towards 38th week of Mommy's pregnancy and the gynae advised Mommy that she should induce labour as her body seems to be ready, and that babies put on weight faster outside the stomach on a diet of milk!
However, Daddy and Mommy somehow felt that Reyes should be kept in the tummy as long as possible as that would be the best enviroment to protect this little body. Ah mah suggested that Mommy should go for a 2nd opinion as it came across to her that the gynae might be inducing the baby at her convenience, so that she would not be called up suddenly on the Chinese New Year holiday! And so, they made an appointment to see Dr Chan.
Dr Chan agreed that Reyes is small and was estimated to be 2.3kg.He said that there is no urgency to deliver the baby right now, but he mentioned that 37th week would be a good time.
Dr Chan's consultation charges was $155 and his scan was another $155. A whopping $310 for a second opinion!!!
Mommy then went to see Dr Yang and she prep Mommy that delivery of Reyes would probably fall on the 1st week of febuary. Mommy hope that Reyes would make it to 3kg at birth.
Daddy chose the 8th of Feb to induce baby reyes. Just because it sounded nice 08.02.2010. However Mommy came to realise that the 8th "chong" the year of Goat( Daddy's zodiac)
So Great grandma suggested 5th Feb which is a auspicious day. Unless Reyes decided to come out on an earlier date, Reyes shall complete our little family on 5th Febuary 2010!
1st Feb 2010, Mommy weigh 67.2kg and Reyes was 2.5kg. It was the last gynae visit before Mommy checks in to the laour ward on the 5th. Dr Yang thinks that both Mommy and baby is ready and we possibly wouldnt have a chance to wait to the 5th!
The "dunno when its coming" feeling is a real anxiety. Mommy never had spontaneous labour before and she doesnt really knew what sort of pain is a REAL pain as Braxton Hicks comes and goes all the time!
Daddy sent Mommy home and went back to work. As usual, I wanted Mommy's company to play but Mommy wanted to be more prepared with the labour stuff since it seems imminent! Mommy packed the last few outstanding items and also read up on "labour signs" online.
1) regular contractions that last for an hour which will progress to be closer intervals and stronger feel of contractions.
2) mucus plug "show"
3) water bag burst
At about 5pm odd, Mommy had a bit of tummy discomfort. At 7pm, she thought she should tell Daddy about it.
7.28pm SMS to Daddy : "I have cramps quite often. Every few mins but each last only like 5 - 10 secs. I have a bad feeling it could be just tonight or tomorrow."
Daddy told Mommy to monitor the situation and promised to rush back as soon as he can when Mommy needs him.
Mommy started to take things seriously and recored her contractions on paper.
.7.24pm

9.09pm
9.20pm (pressed the bell at labour ward. HELP!!!)
Mommy had her pre-planned epidural at 10.40pm and felt a lot better on that scary bed. Mommy and Daddy then started fiddling and preparingthe their new video camera and realised that the SD card they have brought is not compatible with the video camera! Thats the biggestpunishments for procastinating to pack the labour bag!!!
Mommy ask the mid wife to check for dilation and ask if they baby would be out in 45mins! Haha....the mid wife told us that it would not be this soon and Daddy rushed off to Mustafa to buy the stupid SD card!
How drama.
1.14am Daddy came back with a working and functioning video camera. Phew!
4am Dr Yang came and Mommy was shivering a lot. Mommy was really scared but she knew she had to be brave.
4.10am Reyes was born.
He looked NOTHING Daddy and Mommy have imagined!
Reyes weighs 2.87kg and is 49cm.
My little sunshine.
